I've installed the game and it runs OK. Turned off the computer and come back to play again and the game can't be found. Checked the box for desktop icon but did not get one. Re-install and got same problem.

A game that big can't disappear all of a sudden because it's not possible. The only logical reason why the software disappears as if the PC contains Deep Freeze application that wipes everything unless the installation is allowed, but I don't think that's the case.
When installing Microsoft Flight Simulator X, make sure to carefully choose a partition that has enough space, then note the installation folder, reboot the PC and check if it's there. I couldn't see any reason
The minimum system requirements for Microsoft Flight Simulator X are: Operating System: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP SP2 Computer Processor: 1.0 GHz Memory: 256 MB of RAM for Windows XP SP 2 512 MB of RAM for WIndows Vista and Windows 7 Hard disk space: 14 GB available hard disk space Video Card: 32 MB DirectX 9-compatible video card If you do not have enough space on your current hard drive you may consider adding another one and install the game on that one.
I have installed payware airplanes in FSX and they show in the Sim Objects/Airplanes folder but when I open FSX they are not listed. I have checked the "ALL" box and there are some shown for instance Majestic Dash 8, but I have Just Flight HS800 installed and it does not show or the Epic Victory and Feelthere CRJ200. Can anyone help?

All the FSX add-ons have a readme file stored in the archive. You should look at the readme file before installing the add-ons. Most of these files have certain requirements and having FSX installed is not enough in some cases. I can't recommend you a fresh install of the game because it would take ages to complete due to the big installation. Read the readme files and then you should have the planes installed.
Usually it's because the GPS Engine became confused receiving different information from what was expected. This means that the default flight was based on a situation after a completed flight. In other words, the flight contains data such as the plane is flying when actually the plane is positioned at the destination airport. What you can try to do is create a new flight without the setup of any flight plan, and save that flight as the default flight.
How you start a free flight at the gate? I have seen a few videos on YouTube and they can start at the gate. When I begin with free flight, I'm on the runway and not at the gate. Can you help?

When you are chosing your airport their is a box which says choose runway/starting position if you click that it shows a list of gates/parking/fuel etc.
okay, on the ends of every runway there r numbers... and if you are about to land like 2 miles out (away from the wanted runway) they are more likely to assign the one you are closes to but if they dont say streight in then that is not the runway unless u r not aliened with the runway.. dont worry you will get it. it took me 6 months to get it but if you want more info email me at [email protected] (xman 506 @ hotmail [dot] com)
I have Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, but when I start the game it keeps asking for disc 4. Can you tell me what to do to overcome this issue?

I'm trying to install my new FSX since I lost my previous CD's. I accidentally deleted all FSX files from the Program Files folder and now when I try to install my new FSX, it gives me an error saying that I already have a later version of FSX installed on my machine. When I try to uninstall FSX, I receive the same error. What can I do?

You can't just transfer the content from one game to another game. The plane and its files need to be edited properly in a graphic editor especially created for these games. To save you from trouble, I can be sure that SimAviation has a compatible version that is already converted for Microsoft FSX.
I have tried without success to install Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2. It starts the installation process but after a short time it closes without completing the setup. It then tells me to try again later. What can I do?
